Real-life Minecraft!!!!!
The purpose of this project is to develop a modular building system that could build Minecraft-like structures in the real world, using real-world physical constraints and mechanics. This is intended to be a structural /mechanical engineering project with architectural influence, but all disciplines are welcome to participate. Let's theorize of how to bring Minecraft into the real world!
I started thinking about the cube itself, and how they can connect to each other without the use of tools or extra connection pieces. This is a really tough engineering problem, because each cube has to be able to connect to other cubes on each of their 6 faces. So, I made the cube hollow, with detachable faces so they can be removed when connecting opposite sides to other cubes (for easy-access). The center of each fact can be popped out, and bridged to another cube. There are locking mechanisms that can be slid using your fingers to lock the faces and connection componenets together. The locking mechanisms are a first draft, and I'm sure there's an industrial designer somewhere who can design that way better than me. Who's up for the challenge! lol

Here is the cube module that I created. Feel free to download and modify, create your own design, and post a new branch.

Japanese wood joinery is incredible. I was thinking the cubes can join together with some sort of friction fit piece or something.
